I was surprised to see the “Dr” tag before his name when I was entering his chamber for the interview. I felt like how can an IPS office have Doctor tag before his name? There is something unique about this IPS officer. Prior to his IPS he did Ph.D in Bio-chemistry. I am not sure whether this is observed with any other IPS officer or not! And he does justify it very well by saying that his studies of Bio-chemistry has been useful to him even for his public service in terms of it helps him understand various chemical reactions that can occur in people during accidents, breaking traffic rules, road rage etc.!
Video of Interview – Dr K L N Rao
He is Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic & Crime in Rajkot. In this interview I have extensively talked with him regarding the traffic situation of Rajkot city, by raising various questions. Some of my questions were direct in terms of what citizens always keep thinking about such as traffic police department is given a target amount to collect from citizens, shed some light on this. Also I have asked him about whether he being at the top position, in addition to working at policy level in office, does go out in effort to understand & feel the position of traffic in the city in real?
To my belief, he has given answers in a detailed manner by explaining what was expected from him. He also provides information on the public partnership to handle the traffic. One of the active NGO from Rajkot which is engaged with traffic issues of Rajkot is Bolbala Traffic Education Trust.
