With just 4 months left to face NDA I Exam, you need to pace up your preparations. You have to gear up your speed, so that you can cover whole of the syllabus and even have some time left in your hands for revision purpose. However, don’t let yourself down or stressed if, you don’t clear NDA in the first attempt of 2017, which is on April 23, 2017, as you will get another chance to prove yourself, in the month of September 2017.
UPSC conducts the Exam twice every year. The Union Public Service Commission is solely responsible for issuing guidelines for selection and conducts the NDA entrance examination, and their decision is binding.
Branches
The National Defence Academy further has three branches under it- Army, Navy and Air Force. For all these three training exams, at least 3 years at the National Defence Academy are indispensable. After the completion of 3 years, for both Army and Naval cadets, 1 year of training is required at their respective specialization. Air Force is the only stream where the duration of training is of 1 and half years.
Important Dates
The exam notification for 2017 opens on January 18, 2017. The last date for form submission is February 10, 2017, while the exam will be held on April 23, 2017. The admit cards for the exam will be made available one or two weeks prior to the exam. The result for the entrance exam will be declared during the month May.
Selection Process
Cracking the is a two-step process. First, the candidate has to clear the written test and then there is SSB interview, which is held in September.
You must have got the idea by now that the written entrance exam is objective in nature and is bilingual. So, there is nothing to worry about, if you are not so strong in English or in Hindi language.
You have to work on your speed to solve the questions as you will be getting only 5 hours of time to get over with mathematics and general ability test. The Mathematics paper consists of 300 marks whereas the General Ability Test is for 600 marks. I must warn you, that if you play your guessing game in the exam, you might lose some very precious marks, as there is the provision of negative marking for each wrong attempt you make. So, it is better to avoid paying guessing game!
Are you Eligible to appear for NDA?
It is very much important that you take care of all the eligibility conditions laid by UPSC for those who wish to appear for the Exam. Because if you don’t and you are found ineligible, at any stage of the selection process, you will be just thrown out of the competition. So, it’s better to make sure, first of all, that you actually fulfil all the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criterion for the exam is two-fold: Educational and National.
Nationality: The candidates should necessarily be an Indian and must have a domicile certificate to support the same. However, it also allows foreign nationals but, the clarification for that can be found from the respective embassies of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Myanmar.
Educational qualifications: Army, Navy and Air Force set their own different educational eligibility standards. Before talking about that it is important for you to know that any such person who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of the Armed Forces is not eligible to apply. What you have to deal with to get Selected?
Written Exam is not the only thing you have to pass to get into the Academy. Rather, it is just the first baby step. You still need to clear 2 more stages, in order to reach your destination. And mind you, they are not easy and simple, rather, they are pretty tricky. So, there are three stages you have to clear!

SSB Interview is the second stage where invigilators note your day to day routine for 5 days in a row. Basically, it is a Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test. You will have to pass certain test in these 5 days, and according to your performance in those tests, eliminations are made at the end of each day. Remember that the invigilators don’t only notice your performance in those tests but, they also keep a very sharp on your personality, behavior and attitude. So, you have to be an all-rounder if you are even thinking about getting into the Academy. It’s not an easy road.
