Much awaited moment has arrived. A. R. Rahman has finally did it. The living legendary music composer, A. R. Rahman has won the Oscar for Best Original Score category. While he beat other nominations for Best Original Score, Alexandre Desplat (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), James Newton Howard (Defiance), Danny Elfman (Milk) and Thomas Newman (WALL-E).
Bingo! the maestro has done. First ever Indian music composer to win such a prestigious award. His music in Slumdog Millionare has already won Golden Globe and BAFTA awards.
But winning Oscar is the ultimate payback any artist can get. Not only he has given a pride to Indian bollywood industry, but every music lover in India.
Rahman had received two Oscar nominations, one for Best Original Score and another for Best Original Song. He won the both. What a victory for him amongst Hollywood maestros!
The other Oscars for “Slumdog Millionaire” include Best Picture, adapted screenplay, and cinematography.
Heath Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for “The Dark Knight”. Penelope Cruz claimed the evening’s first prize, supporting actress, for her role as a tempestuous artist in Woody Allen’s Spanish romance “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” while the robot romance “WALL-E” won for feature-length animation.
“Slumdog” composer A.R. Rahman, a dual Oscar winner for the score and song, said the movie was about “optimism and the power of hope.”
“All my life, I’ve had a choice of hate and love. I chose love, and I’m here,” Rahman said.
