The National Test Agency (NTA) has put an end to all kinds of speculations regarding JEE Main 2019, as it will be the officiating body for JEE Main from next year. As per several notifications issued by the authority, it is now clear that NTA has massively changed the entrance exam pattern, with no changes in the syllabus. Let’s get the details here.
NTA JEE Main 2019 – Changes So Far
Mode of Entrance: As per official notification, JEE Main 2019 will be a Computer Based Test (CBT). Paper 1 (B.E/B.Tech) and Paper 2 (B.Plan/B.Arch) Mathematics and Aptitude subjects will be computer-based entirely, whereas the Drawing will be a pen and paper based exam to be attempted on the drawing sheet. Paper 1 will be carried in two shifts whereas Paper 2 will be held in one shift. With over 2 lakh candidates appearing in each session, there will be 8 sittings in total.
Two Attempts as One: JEE Main will be conducted twice a year from 2019 onwards in months of January and April. Aspirants can choose to appear in one or both the papers. Also, candidates should know that two attempts will be counted as one attempt under a year.
Age Criteria: The minimum age criteria is no more applicable to NTA JEE Main 2019 and any candidate who has passed the class 12th examination in 2017, 2018 or appearing in 2019 will be eligible to appear for JEE Main irrespective of his/her age.
Registration Fee Deduction: The NTA has reduced the exam registration fees for different categories. Earlier INR 1,000 was charged for Paper 1 or Paper 2, but now it would be INR 500 for boys and INR 250 for girls under general. Similarly, the fee has been reduced for categories too.
Common Service Centres: The setting up of 1.5 lakh Common Service Centres or CSCs across India with the major focus in urban and rural areas is a landmark achievement. These centers would provide help in form filling, submission and payment through e-wallet. Candidates are supposed to pay a minimal fee amount for services rendered by CSCs. Online/Offline Mock Tests: To end last moment chaos and doubts being held by students, NTA has released a mock test paper both in an offline and online mode in the month of September 2018. The mock test will give a good understanding of the exam pattern and what students should expect from JEE Main 2019.
Test Practice centers (TPCs): The setting up of 2,697 Test Practice Centres (TPCs) across the country is another positive change in the format. The TPCs will allow the registered candidates to practice mock tests in online mode. Candidates can register for the same online or through NTA app downloadable through the play store.
Different paper for each candidate: The NTA with the help of educationist, subject experts and psychometric test experts is trying to ensure that no two candidates should have the same set of questions. A huge databank is being developed where questions will be picked up randomly by the test takers, thus ensuring uniqueness. The level of questions will vary from easy to difficult based on the answers given by the candidates.
Normalization Procedure: NTA has reintroduced the normalization procedure to ensure no student is benefitted or disadvantaged due to the varying level of difficulty level across different sessions. It shall make use of predefined formulas to determine normalization of percentile scores in each subject and overall.
Best of the Two: NTA has bought the biggest benefit to students by introducing the best of two scores format. If candidates appear in both January and April exams, the best of the two scores shall be considered as the final score for AIR purpose.
JEE Main 2019 Syllabus – No Changes
NTA has ensured that the syllabus for JEE Main 2018 has not changed in any way. The syllabus for each topic is provided under the information bulletin and has been prescribed under the consultation of CSAB, the admission granting authority for JEE Main. The syllabus would be based on class 11th and Class 12th syllabi for subjects Maths, Chemistry and Physics. Students are advised to get a strong grip on the syllabus as they start preparing for the examination.
JEE Main 2019 Exam Pattern
JEE Main 2019 Paper 1 question paper will comprise of 30 questions for each subject – Physics, Maths and Chemistry i.e. a total of 90 questions. These questions will be in MCQ format and for each correct answer, there will 4 marks and 1 mark deduction for every wrong answer. The question paper will be available in three languages – English, Hindi and Gujarati.
Coming to Paper 2, it will comprise a total of 82 questions. Out of these 30 would be on mathematics and 50 on aptitude in MCQ format. The drawing will have only two questions to be done in pen and paper mode. There will be 4 marks for each correct answer and -1 for every incorrect answer. Drawing questions will be of 70 marks each.
About NTA JEE 2019
JEE Main 2019 is scheduled between January 6 to 20. The second exam of JEE Main 2019 will be carried between April 6 to 20, 2019 and the application forms will be invited from February 8 to March 7, 2019. The last date to apply for JEE Main 2019 is till September 30, 2018. NTA has also released the online/offline mock test on September 8, where candidates can even appear in mock by registering for TPCs.
